Being a school governor is both rewarding to the individual and invaluable to the school. The governor role is strategic rather than operational. Governors work together to set the school’s aims, objectives, policies and targets. They oversee the school’s finances and monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making. Governors support and challenge the school’s leadership team to drive school improvement.
To fulfil the role you will need to be supportive of the values of the school and be able to give time and effort to help further its ongoing development. No previous experience is needed, only a commitment to the task, as training and support are available.
